Speckled Black Cicada (Gaeana maculata, Cicadidae)
Gaeana is a genus of cicadas, most members of which have colourful marking on their forewings, found across tropical and temperate Asia. Their bright wing patterns have been hypothesized as being a case of Batesian mimicry where the toxic models may be day-flying moths of the families Zygaenidae and Arctiidae.![]()

Telling someone they’re not good enough is not okay
Telling someone they’re not good enough is not okay
I don’t care if you’re joking. I don’t care if you think ‘It will push them to work harder.’ Because it isn’t a joke, and it will not always make someone want to work harder to prove you wrong.Sometimes they accept it as a fact, then they live with a mindset of “Why try when I’m just going to fail?”
It’s not okay.
I have a mother who does this to me, and I recently (this morning) had a conversation with my father about how my mother is never proud of my grades. It’s either I get an A* or my grades are worthless. It makes me feel really bad, and I tell my dad about it all the time because trying your best isn’t good enough if it’s not an A*. It hurts me more because I have a brother where if he gets a C, they’re proud as hell. And I know we’re different but I’m always jealous because I want them just to be proud of me for working hard and trying my best.
But the thing is parents just want you to do well. All those other grades they may not mention to you, but they’ll mention to other people. Like my dad says how apparently when they’re out with friends, all they talk about is how I’ve done really well and how I got into boarding school and it’s the side that us as children don’t get to see.
It’s a human thing to only focus on the bad. I mean, you think of Hitler and you think about dictatorship and nazis and world war 2. Does anybody remember the good like how he liked children, and was a vegetarian, and how he was a great artist? It’s not the first thing that comes to your mind, that’s for sure. People focus on the bad, no matter who you are.
The human brain is interesting because there are people who thrive from this. They have something to prove, and they work harder. At the same time there are people who can’t take that. I believe it’s called the Carrot or the Stick. In the end grades are just on a piece of paper and my dad says that after school, every day is an exam. Maybe they may be harsh, but imagine how harsh the world gets once you’re an adult. Parents try to get you to develop a tough skin a bit earlier, and sometimes it just doesn’t work. I went through a crisis back in primary school because I was 99% sure I couldn’t do anything. You know, every time I’m taking an exam my parents like to emphasise how my sister got an A*.
parents try, they really do. For all you know, they just want you to not be them. They want you to have a good education, and a good future. They’re scared for you, a lot of the time. But yeah, my 5903820950 cents.
Look at this cute fucking thing.
I want twenty of them.

There is nothing cuter than bugs cleaning their little feet. Even spiders I’d normally be leery of, my heart just turns to rainbows.
